Weekend 1830

Le weekend dernier, nous avons passé un formidable moment dans un magnifique château dans le Nivernais.
Le thème était 1830 et j'ai donc pu pour la première fois porter un corset :)
Je n'ai pas de photos de ce dernier mais je tâcherai d'en prendre bientôt.
C'était aussi la première fois que je m'"attaquais "au tailoring et bien, tout ce que je peux dire, c'est que c'est un fameux challenge...

Last weekend we've spent a delightful moment in a wonderful castle near Nevers, France.
The theme was 1830 and I could wear a corset for the first time :)
I don't have pictures of the corset itself yet but I will take some very soon.
That was my first attempt at tailoring and this is quite challenging in every way....

Maintenon 1682

Bientôt, une nouvelle sortie est prévue les 2 et 3 juin prochain au château de Maintenon, en compagnie du Bosquet pour la reconstitution de la cour du Roy Louis XIV.
Donc, me voilà en pleine construction d'un habit 1682 comprenant justaucorps, culotte, chemise, manchette, cravate, baudrier, chapeau, gants et bas.....
Moi qui croyait que le XVIIème siècle était beaucoup plus simple par rapport au XVIIIème..

La chemise,les manchettes, la cravate, le chapeau, la culotte et presque le baudrier sont achevés, reste le justaucorps et les gants.
Et j'oubliais bien sûr les 120 boutons....
J'ai donc suivi encore et toujours la presque seule source de patrons adéquats pour l'époque, Nora Waugh, qui a tiré le sien de l'habit ci-contre, exposé au V&A de Londres.
Le problème dans ce genre de patron est la conformation à un corps de notre silhouette moderne en gardant les lignes originales.
Malgré les modifications, cela reste assez inconfortable mais réussit à évoquer la façon de se tenir de cette période.
Beaucoup de couture encore en perspective!


Soon there will be a new outing at the chateau de Maintenon with the reenacment group le Bosquet.
We will reenact the court of Louis XIV.
I've planning an entire outfit dating from 1682 which includes a coat, breeches, shirt with cuffs and cravat, sword hanger, hat, gloves and stockings....
At first I believed the 17th century was easier than the18th century... how wrong I was..

I achieved to finish the shirt, cuffs, cravat, hat, breeches and almost done sword hanger, remains the coat and the gloves.
I forgot the 120 buttons of course...
I used the most useful pattern for that period which is again from Nora Waugh. She drew the pattern after a suit in the V&A collection (see picture above).
Again a challenge to keep the lines of the original pattern and modify it to conform to our modern body.
It is still uncomfortable but this is a good way to behave in a period manner.
Lots a sewing going ahead!

Château de Condé 1760

Il y a presque un mois, le groupe de reconstitution historique 'Le Bosquet' a organisé un superbe week-end au château de Condé-en-Brie (Aisne) et le thème était l'année 1760.
Tout fut merveilleux, les lieux, les costumes, les convives, l'organisation, le temps splendide.
C'était donc l'occasion de faire deux costumes pour moi, un habit de jour et une tenue de chasse.
La tenue de jour en coton plumetis rose et verte est basée sur un patron de 1760 qui se trouve dans le livre de Nora Waugh "the cut of men's clothes".
Cet habit compte 61 boutonnières!!!

L'autre habit est un habit de chasse tiré du livre "Fashion" du Kyoto Museum, l'original étant en peau de chamois, ici je l'ai reproduit en suédine.
On pourra donc dire que je me suis beaucoup exercé à faire des boutonnières :)

About a month ago we attended a wonderful event at the Château de Condé-en-Brie with the reenactment group 'Le Bosquet' and the theme was the year 1760.
Everything was just perfect, the place, the costumes, the people, the organisation, the weather (!)
I made two outfits, one for the day and one for the hunt.
The day suit is based on a pattern by Nora Waugh in 'the cut of men's clothes' and is made in a rose and green coton with a dotted pattern.
I made 61 buttonholes for the entire outfit!
The hunting outfit is based on an extant costume from the book 'Fashion' from the Kyoto Museum.
The original was made in chamois leather but I made mine in suede.
Again, a lot of buttonholes and buttons as you can see, I'm now an expert in this field :)

habit anglais 1790

Voici donc mon nouvel habit dans le parc du château de Breteuil.
Un nouvel habit 1780 en lin bleu est en préparation, c'est en effet trop chaud par ces temps de forte chaleur de porter 9 épaisseurs de tissus (même naturels...).
Je n'ose pas imaginer ce que c'était à l'époque, puisqu'ils ne changeaient que de chemise.....
